Book premiere of the catalogue : Morphing the Roma Label

What could be a contemporary artistic practice look like that gives expression to the state of Roma existence in Switzerland and Europe? A practice that reviews the history of the Roma and sets straight the erroneous assumptions of the past that perstist into the present? A practice that undertakes a fundamental examination of these assumptions with a pinch of fluxist humor and responds flexibly to current developments in arts and minorities policy? Not all performances and actions that the Roma Jam Session art Kollektiv (RJSaK) has conceived and realized publicly in recent years fulfil all of these conditions; but taken as whole, the work of the RJSaK operates on all these levels.This publication documents the eight-year cooperation of the RJSaK and in this form of assemblage has itself become an art project: it is simultaneously an attempt to address and reflect on the work of the RJSaK and an aesthetic experience in its own right.
